SES China 2006 - Name Dropping

Posted by Miles Evans

nanjing temple
Okay... I just got back to Thailand from two seriously harrowing days of speed shopping in Shanghai. Is there anything that cannot be pirated in China? These guys put the rest of Asia to shame. You gotta dig the ingenuity – in fact some of this stuff is better quality than the original product. I think me and the wife picked up an entirely new wardrobe for under what we normally would pay for one outfit. Sweet.

Ok, before I forget - I want to quickly thank some folks and rain some praise. I lost a few business cards when my camera was swiped so drop a comment or send an email if I missed you:

  • Mr. Proven Bau CEO of Yonkr for the amazing translator he provided me in studly young Ryan Wong. We operated some pretty covert bargaining techniques as this guy has got the charms like I have never seen. If you need a translator or go between in China, this is the golden contact.
  • Mirina Bau and her friends for their terrific warmth and kindness. See the photos below for some sweet pics of all of these great Nanjing people. Bless them all.
  • Mattiew Fan for still more translations, help sourcing some hardware, and finding the Nutter a Thai restaurant.
  • Simon Dang
  • all around solid guy from MSN for making me feel like I was in NYC. See you in Thailand.
  • Jonathan Huang of Asia SEO for snagging the best search consultancy domain in Asia. A pox on thee ;)
  • Master marketer and fellow Canuck out of Calgary Ian McAnerin for being so open, and well, Canadian.
  • Dale Hursch & David Temple (not to be confused with the classical guitar player) of smartsearchmarketing, two great people and well known show speakers.
  • Mikio Matsuo with Nokia for hooking me up with some John Players butts from back home and giving me the down-lo on the future of mobile search.
  • Bill Hunt for a copy of his brilliant book Search Engine marketing Inc and giving me his ear so freely.
  • Mike Grehan master speaker, marketer, consultant, trend spotter, story teller, insider and all around cool bloke. Thanks for dinner and reams of free advice.
  • T.R. Harrington for scaring the living hell out of me and showing me what Chinese vaudeville looks like.
  • Brooke Schumacher from eMarketingTalkShow.com for being California gnarly and listening to me speed blather all night.
  • Heiko and Thomas of Zanox for not laughing at me chunder and completely lose the plot.
  • Guy Romm for teaching me the ways of the Mohawk Indians and endlessly shopping with me.
  • Jillian Redford, the manager of Nanjing’s Red Club night spot for the party and letting me get her loaded on the job.
  • Good Samaritan Alan Flesher for teaching an anonymous stranger the Shanghai subway.
  • Of course Inway Ni, the boys at ISAS, and Chris Sherman, & associates for making this all possible. You guys blew me away. Full stop.

Wooops! The SE Asian boys. Can't forget you guys. Not much I can really say that won't get me in trouble so here is some anchortext love:

power tip!Mike Wai, brilliant software development entrepreneur and tour attraction mastermind. SEO whiz Marc Macalua (pronouned macarena) from SEO Philippines. Stephen Noton sick brilliant and outspoken SEO Consultant come playboy out of Singapore. And from my old stomping grounds Kuala Lumpur, Zaf Noordin, offering SEM in Malaysia, sex life advice & guidance.

And to the dozens of other friendly folks me and Nut met at the show - please stay in touch. I honestly cannot remember the last time we were in such fine company.

Here is my first round of photos from a day out in Nanjing. Ryan Wong is the master photographer.

Alright I am exhausted. Check back tomorrow for some more SES China stuff and maybe some video if I can remember how to use Adobe Premiere without too much stress.

Oh and to the guy who nicked my new digital camera while I was partying - Enjoy the Muay Thai videos and snaps you misguided lame ass SOB. If anyone has any stills of the Google Dance I would really love to see them.

Thanks for the shout out dude. By the way it's Brooke Schumacher from the radio show eMarketingTalkShow.com. Listen in as she gives great interviews with some of the above mentioned SES folks. Hope to see you in Thailand one day.

Thanks Dave. I have this sinking feeling Brooke didn't give me her name card on purpose, but then again, I always have that feeling ;)

LOL!

Miles, Thanks for giving us props. Ha, not on purpose. Sounds like you may have pitched my card. I thought I passed it to you and gave you my 'schpeel' but then again we were in transit a lot. Great to meet up with you and your wife. You were a lot of fun and I like your podcast. Let's chat about that sometime.

Thanks buddy. Btw, I'd already started a local SEO resource - http://www.larrylim.net
