In a strange twist of fate that I am still trying to get my head around, I managed to predict the future. Well sort of. If you remember my last post a few weeks ago I said... Continue reading "Pr3M0n1T10n! H0W l33T 1S TH47 ?"

Random | Feedburner Hack: View Anyone's Subscriber Count

Well not anyone's, but anyone who is using Feedburner to track and manage their feed. I'm not sure how well known this exploit is but I just came across it and will post it here for posterity. It's simple really.

Random | AutoDigg Exploit Confirmed!

I saw something quite amazing today, and had to make sure I wasn't seeing things before I posted this. This story might go away also so I figured I would get it up before digg pulls the rug out. I am sure this will be news at some point soon so I will reveal this now. Continue reading "AutoDigg Exploit Confirmed!"

Random | Crazed Fanboy Plunders Newegg

When I was younger I used to work in a PC shop building and fixing computers for customers. It was a crappy job with low pay but the work was really rewarding. The manufacturers used to send OEMs reference boards and beta hardware, and the thrill of using something before anyone else is a damn good one.

Random | Why the iPhone Sucks

So I saw the keynote, the videos, the renderings, the fanboy rants, the Engadget traffic slurp, the digg gush, the Dvorak whining, and all the assorted iPhone blather. I mean it was unavoidable. Easily the most successful and least expensive viral marketing bulldozer since panty hose. Amazing! That’s where my fascination with this self proclaimed breakthrough product ends and just plain common sense takes over.

I just noticed Marc Macalua back on Dec 30th (found in my referrer logs!) and since I don’t have anything useful to write about lately why not blather on about myself for a few minutes…

Random | Christmas in Phuket

Wow two freaking months and no blog posts. Am I lazy or what? The truth is I have been embroiled in some exciting web 2.0 projectz and have just come up for air. Most of my team is taking a break over the holidays and I am following suit with 7 days in sunny Phuket in the south of Thailand. This is also the site of the 2004 tsunami where I was 2 years ago at this exact same time.

Six weeks of nearly non stop travel have not allowed much blog posting as of late. To be honest I have also been doing some vacationing and trying to enjoy life offline a bit more. For me that includes a lot of reading. Here are a few of my favorites.

Random | The 411 on Word Cloud Sites

Cmon how many of us went through the whole million dollar homepage kafuffle with a sour taste in our mouth? You remember Alex Tew's dollar-per-pixel advertising page that raked in over a million dollars in just a few months. To raise money for university, pfffft. Enter word cloud sites.

Random | Digg Algorithm Musings

On ProfitPapers digg replaced Google as my top traffic referrer by a huge margin a couple of months ago. I see more and more publishers reporting the same thing. There has been endless discussion over what ranking factors Google uses to prioritize our content, but what about Digg?

Random | What is Eon8?

A few days ago there was some buzz in IRC about an impending terrorist attack signaling the end of the world which was to take place on June 30th, 2006 dubbed Project X13600. Scared yet? Well you should be because that is only 16 hours away!

Random | Search 2.0?

The jury is certainly out on where search will be a year from but with the boom of personalized content it seems to be a given there will be some core changes on the horizon. With the speed at which the digg phenomenon has evolved, maybe even some key players.

Random | Bangkok Booth Babes Video from Thailand PC Expo

Last month I found myself needing a new laptop at the same time as the annual Commart PC Expo was held here in Bangkok. After snagging a new notebook we decided to run around with the Handycam and see what we could come up with. In the video you can see me chatting up many Thai booth babes, some scenes from a spicy lunch, and a bizarre mime show from AMD. Enjoy.

Random | Vacation Time - Koh Samui

It’s time for my quarterly trip to the beach and this time me and the Nutter opted for Koh Phangan for the legendary Full Moon Party that happens on April 13th. I was at a FMP a couple of times as far back as 2001 so I definitely know what to expect here. The debauchery usually gets way out of hand so my group has strategically planned to leave at 6:00am the morning of the 14th back to Koh Samui.

Random | SES China 2006 - Name Dropping

Okay... I just got back to Thailand from two seriously harrowing days of speed shopping in Shanghai. Is there anything that cannot be pirated in China? These guys put the rest of Asia to shame. You gotta dig the ingenuity – in fact some of this stuff is better quality than the original product. I think me and the wife picked up an entirely new wardrobe for under what we normally would pay for one outfit. Sweet.

Alright so who impressed the most at SES China 2006?

Random | Free .INFO Domains

I noticed 1and1 is giving away .info domains again but this time is one upping dotster by including private registration. So all you black hat bastages can stock up I guess. Actually I shouldn’t say that. I am conducting a fairly brilliant and profitable way to use .info domains (which carry less weight in Google I believe) that I will be writing about here soon. The experiment is in progress but the results will take a few weeks or more to process. Anyways stock up while you can as this will likely not last long – they don’t seem to mention when the deal ends.

Ok now some fun stuff...

Random | Rumours mount over Google's internet plan

Google is working on a project to create its own global internet protocol (IP) network, a private alternative to the internet controlled by the search giant, according to sources who are in commercial negotiation with the company.

Last month, Google placed job advertisements in America and the British national press for "Strategic Negotiator candidates with experience in...identification, selection, and negotiation of dark fibre contracts both in metropolitan areas and over long distances as part of development of a global backbone network".

Dark fibre is the remnants of late 1990s internet boom where American web companies laid down fibre optic cables in preparation for high speed internet delivery. Following the downturn in the technology sector during the early 2000s, the installation process for many of these networks was left incomplete. This has resulted in a usable network of cables spread across the United States that have never been switched on. By purchasing the dark fibre, Google would in effect be able to acquire a ready made internet network that they could control.

Random | Google Rumours & Random Blather

Not much to report today so here is some late breaking gossip on everyone’s favorite search engine. Evil empire in the making? You decide... The trick of entering search terms in capital letters worked for about six hours. Crypticide's readers noted how quickly Google acted, and that now it was onto finding some other means around Google's great wall around China. Read the rest from pcmag. Another good read on this subject is from sfgate: How Google Censors its Chinese Portal. And for the conspiracy geek in all of us...
