Vacation Time - Koh Samui

Posted by Miles Evans

Full Moon Party!
It’s time for my quarterly trip to the beach and this time me and the Nutter decided on Koh Phangan for the legendary Full Moon Party that happens on April 13th. I was at a FMP a couple of times as far back as 2001 so I definitely know what to expect here. The debauchery usually gets way out of hand so my group has strategically planned to leave at 6:00am the morning of the 14th back to Koh Samui.

Particularly alarming to me is that this years party will fall right smack at the beginning of Thai New Years – known as The Songkran water festival. The Songkran water festival is a week long affair that is basically a huge battle between everyone in the country and their super soaker water guns. I kid you not.

Recent years have shown the death toll in Thailand raise to 500+ with thousands of injuries during the 10 day festival. I see it has already started! Truth be told, Songkran is complete and utter madness and certainly a spectacle, but mostly it’s a whole lot of fun if you play it safe.

Koh Samui is a gorgous place with some really nice secluded beaches. The Nutter hasn't been here yet so she is gonna love it. I have some basic wireless sussed out as well but the local coverage is a bit spartan. I should be able to function somewhat if the Sang Som doesn't get me first.

So between the 12th-17th don’t expect too much from me, depending on the weather I suppose. I suspect you will see some party shots and maybe some of my friends making fools of themselves, but I am hoping to take a bit of a break.

I also took this time to make some upgrades to the server in NY as it wained slightly getting dugg the other day. The outage will occur between Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 11:00PM EDT and Sunday, April 16, 2006 at 5:00AM EDT.

Wow, sounds like a blast. I can understand the injuries but deaths? What's that all about? Hope you get back in one piece! Have fun ;)

This post comes from Koh Samui. The communications system (phones) was down most of the last few days so I couldn't get on till just now.

Songkran deaths are high due to fools screwing around on motorbikes after whiskey binging for 10 days.

...Will post some FMP party pics tommorow, and back to business as usual on Monday.
