Reviews | Search Engine Marketing Inc. Review

To my knowledge there isn’t a more accurate and thorough book on the subject of web and search marketing than Mike Moran and Bill Hunt’s 2005 book Search Engine Marketing Inc. from IBM Press. Seriously. At 592 pages you get not only in depth details about how large companies like IBM handle online/offline marketing, but a very readable history of search on the web.

Reviews | Adwords Editor Beta Open to All

I missed reporting this early in June so figured I would throw out a reminder as I am using Google's new Adwords editor fairly religously now. I have to admit one of my least favorite marketing tasks was managing Adwords so if you are like me give this a shot.

Reviews | Purple Cow by Seth Godin

Continuing along with my series on the best marketing books ever written comes one of the top offerings by a well known ad room genius, Mr. Seth Godin. Seth likely needs little introduction but for those of you living in your parents basement he recently did a speaking engagement at the Googleplex (link to the video), has authored several best selling marketing books, and is the mastermind behind the recently launched Squidoo.

Reviews | The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell

Malcolm Gladwell needs little introduction as he has written for The New Yorker since 1996 and was recently selected as one of Time’s 100 most influential people for 2005. He is the author of two bestselling books: "The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference," (2000) and "Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking" (2005), both of which were number one New York Times bestsellers. I will review Blink as well but for now let’s focus on The Tipping Point.

Reviews | Best Blogging Software

The blogging platform wars are getting really interesting and much of the discussion I find myself in lately revolves around what is happening with various CMS systems. The market can essentially be defined into 3 major camps: remotely hosted, self hosted, and community based systems. I have used pretty much every blogging platform available and each of them has its ups and downs. In this article I will cover the best options for each area taking into account price, usability, market share and of course SEO potential.

Reviews | Google Base Review

I nearly fell of my chair the other day when an IM revealed the odd URL: http://base.google.com. Hot damn has Google implemented the Matrix? What could this fresh bun out of the Google Labs be after what seems an endless stream of impressive web tools. Well it's official folks. There is now an alternative to ebay with the somewhat Orwellian title Google Base. The Google Base Blogspot goes on to reveal a few more juicy tidbits on big G's broader work in payments including what on earth we are to expect from Google Store.

Reviews | PhpAdsNew Review

The top fold of your website is the most profitable. Everybody knows this. But how well are you taking advantage of this valuable real estate? If you take a look at my header graphic, there is a logo on the left and an advertisement on the right. If you hover your mouse over the ad you should see the status text. As of this writing it should be pointing to a review page within this website. If you right click the image you will see the actual status text displays that it is really going to my ad server. Clever no?

Reviews | Record Skype - HotRecorder Review

I have always wanted to record skype conversations for fun and profit. Hmm let me explain a bit… It’s Sunday, and I just saw Oasis and Franz Ferdinand play Bangkok last night. A friend of mine nailed an interview with one of the bands for a local website and he mentioned that he was recording the interview with skype. I have played around with this before (prank phone calls in Thailand are endlessly amusing) and it was a serious pain in the butt to get a solid audio capture via VOIP. Most methods involved multiple PC’s, suction cup handset gizmo's, and extra audio cables. Yuck, give me a 1 click solution please.

Reviews | Article Post Robot Review

How would you like to be able to submit your fresh articles to over 200 article sites and mailing lists, at the click of a button? Not just any article sites either but the ones you select. Until today I was doing this by hand. Not anymore! Article Post Robot is a Win32 application which automatically submits your article to as many article submission websites (via 1 click) as it holds in its database. From the developer David Tang in a recent email: “Also, just to let you know, we continuously add more article sites to the software and have a new release nearly ready. This will include some nifty new features and 50+ new article sites bringing the total up to 240. Currently, it has 187 sites and 51 lists.

Reviews | Sendstudio Review

I haven’t always had the luxury of co-located servers that I can do what I like with, but I do now so it’s best (and cheaper in the long run) to take advantage. I have a Unix FreeBSD server with PHP and mySQL which Sendstudio requires. Even if you are not overly technically inclined Sendstudio install is a breeze. It comes with a very cool automated install script which runs in a web browser that will do everything but make the database for you. The only step outside of this is to add a cron job. Luckily the Sendstudio users manual walked me through this step, which was a snap. All in all it took me about 10 minutes to have fully functional, and I was left feeling very impressed without having even used the program.

Reviews | Adword Equalizer Review

As of 2005 competition across the PPC networks is really getting tough. Almost everything has been fished out and in the past I personally would waste hundreds of hours finding the right niche to attack next. Often I would be careless and fail to notice how over crowded a particular opportunity was. By the time I discovered my folly it was too late and I had effectively wasted days of development time and research for an idea that was destined to sit and collect dust. A competition and niche analysis tool like Adwords Equalizer completely eliminates this from ever happening again.

Reviews | Aweber Review

Aweber has been in the autoresponder business for 6 years and they are the first program I tested a number of years ago, when I first got involved with online marketing. Since then their remotely hosted solution has become more and more powerful, making it a top choice for those seeking a solution managed by a third party. Prices are very fair at $19.95/month allowing anyone to be up and running within minutes.

Reviews | Clickbank Review

Clickbank is the most popular online credit card processor for sites that sell electronically delivered products like ebooks or software. Clickbank is popular for a few reasons. As a seller you don’t have to worry about merchant accounts and shopping carts and can begin selling immediately. Another huge bonus is CB will operate your affiliate program and even help you get recruits. This all comes at a very reasonable cost. CB charges a one time fee of $49.95 to sellers and 7.5% + $1.00 on every sale. This is quite reasonable considering items sold on CB are non-tangible items like ebooks and software.
