PhpAdsNew Review

Posted by Miles Evans

phpadsnewfBeen down with the flu the last few days. Not Avian - but quite nasty.

The top fold of your website is the most profitable. Everybody knows this. But how well are you taking advantage of this valuable real estate?

If you take a look at my header graphic above, there is a logo on the left and an advertisement on the right. If you hover your mouse over the ad you should see the status text. As of this writing it should be pointing to a review page within this website. If you right click the image you will see the actual status text displays that it is really going to my ad server. Clever no?

I use PhpAdsNew across many of my domains. PhpAdsNew is a server based banner management tool that handles virtually every kind of advertisement type known. Images, text, flash, DHTML, pop-ups – they are all here. The best part about PhpAdsNew is its price: $0. The software is released under the GNU license, meaning you may use the script free or even modify the code as you see fit. As always try to donate some dough if you find the script useful.

PHPAdsnew Features:

  • Support for many types of ads.
  • Deliver ads based on zone’s or keywords.
  • Detailed statistics and automatic emailed reports to advertisers.
  • Geo-targeting!
  • Excellent documentation.

With previous ad server software I used performance was normally a issue, with gobs of extra database queries and silly tracking methods. In the case of PAN however the source code behind delivery is extremely efficient. Very few performance issues are reported.

I run PhpAdsNew on one busy forum in particular and the script easily handles 1,000,000 page views/day. The only suggestion I would make for busier sites using this script is to save your ads stored in the file system as opposed to the database. This is a setting in the PAN config file. This really helped in my case.

All in all PhpAdsNew is about the most solid ad server you will find anywhere. If the developers happen across this review I would only have one suggestion: integrated payment options. That would make it truly perfect.

It's a great tool, I use it on a bunch of sites. I agree that integrated payment option would be ideal. Also, I would like to be able to switch the dollar notation to American (1,000.00) vs 1.000,00

ya pan is a great tool. In fact it's hard to believe it has been free all these years.

brandon: not sure what you mean by the dollar notation??

I am evaluating it and so far it looks great.
What features What kinda 'integrated payment' features are you folks thinking of?
Is there a wish list?

This looks like a great product. Will it allow vertical ads in a block down the side (skyscraper, vertical banner etc)? I've been looking all over the place for something like this.

Sashi: Integrated payment means I want my advertisers to be able to buy ad banners, CPM's or clicks with a credit card. By doing that they would also be able to buy and build PPC Adsense style ads.

I know this in the works.

liebel: yes.

I have been using phpadsnew , now openads for over 3 years and have loved it completly with no complaints. I to thought it needed a payment gateway and wrote one for it about 2 years ago. If anyone would like more information on the phpadsnew paypal payment / signup scripts just email me or stop by my website.
It allows for advertisers and publishers to automaticly signup, pay and create campaings.
